The Online Safety Foundation Uganda (OSFU) is proud to announce a strategic partnership with ChildSafe.dev, a leading child safeguarding technology company, to introduce RoseShield™-an innovative AI-powered child protection platform designed to help create safer digital environments for children across Uganda.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing online child safety by combining digital safety education, safeguarding expertise, and cutting-edge technology.

RoseShield™ is a privacy-first child safeguarding platform that uses advanced Edge AI to identify and help prevent online risks including cyberbullying, sextortion, harmful content exposure, online grooming, and unsafe digital communications. Unlike traditional monitoring tools, RoseShield processes information locally, minimizing data transfers and preserving children’s privacy and dignity.

Initially, the platform will be piloted across three secondary schools in Wakiso, Mpigi, and Kalungu districts over a six-month period. The pilot will generate valuable insights and evidence to inform a broader national rollout involving schools, parents, caregivers, and other child protection stakeholders.

According to the 2023 Disrupting Harm Uganda study, 89% of children aged 12–17 are online, one in three has experienced online sexual exploitation or abuse, and 41% have never received online safety guidance. These findings highlight the urgent need for innovative and scalable child protection solutions.

Dr. Sulaiman Kawooya, CEO of OSFU, emphasized the significance of the partnership:

“For us at OSFU, this is more than a partnership-it is a shared mission to create a safer online environment for children and young people. RoseShield strengthens our Digital Safety Programme, Online Safety in Schools initiative, SafetyNet Clinics programme, and Digital Parenting efforts while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and data protection.”

RoseShield is designed to operate at both school and household levels, enabling educational institutions and families to proactively identify risks before harm occurs. The platform supports multiple Ugandan languages and aligns with Uganda’s child protection and data privacy frameworks.

At OSFU, we believe child safety should be built into digital infrastructure from the beginning-not added as an afterthought. Together with ChildSafe.dev, we are committed to ensuring that children can learn, connect, and thrive safely in the digital world.

Schools, education leaders, and child protection stakeholders interested in participating in the pilot programme are encouraged to contact OSFU for further information.
