Who We Are
The Online Safety Foundation Uganda (OSFU) is a proactive non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a secure digital environment for children, youth, educators, and parents throughout Uganda. With a mission to advocate for and construct a safe online world, OSFU empowers individuals with the essential knowledge, tools, and skills needed to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.
The two main drivers of our work are:
- Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which specifies the rights of young people to be involved in the decisions that affect their lives.
- Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3), which focuses on ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Established on the fundamental principle that everyone deserves a protected online space,OSFU is committed to reshaping the digital realm into a sanctuary where creativity, informed participation, progress, and fearlessness thrive. Endorsed by a coalition of academics, parents,policymakers, educators, and healthcare professionals, our initiatives are tailored to address the expressed needs of parents, teachers, and youth.
Since its inception in 2023, OSFU has evolved from a conceptual idea to a thriving organization,officially registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) under registration number 80034252542827. Headquartered in Mukono District, in Nakasajja, Gayaza, opened in 2023, OSFU is actively engaged in combating the prevalent challenge of online safety deficiencies facing children and youth locally. The primary challenge OSFU addresses lies in the insufficient education and awareness surrounding online risks among children and young people, exacerbated by limited educational access, digital infrastructure disparities, parental guidance deficits, and the rapid proliferation of new online threats.
